New hospital complex Sušak for KBC Rijeka
Project: Construction of the thermal energy plant for the new hospital complex Investor: Hospital complex KBC Rijeka Godina završetka: 2022.
Opseg
The project to build a new hospital complex, KBC Rijeka, at the Sušak location is one of the largest and most modern healthcare infrastructure projects in Croatia. The complex includes a children's hospital, a gynaecology and obstetrics clinic, a thermal power block, and a parking lot. Mi Maris was responsible for the design and execution of mechanical installations for the heating and cooling system of the central thermal power block, which supplies the entire complex with heat and cooling energy.
A new hospital complex is planned for the Sušak site, without the existing energy infrastructure adapted to the requirements of modern hospital facilities. Hospital systems require a high degree of security, redundancy and continuous operation, with precise coordination of a large number of installation systems within a complex building structure.
Approach
The project was implemented using BIM technology and full 3D modelling of installations. Every installation route, every connection, and every potential collision between mechanical, electrical, and building systems was resolved digitally before the start of the works. On a project of this scope, with multiple parallel contractors and strict EU project deadlines, BIM technology ensured precise coordination and prevented problems that would only become visible on site in a traditional approach.
The mechanical installations for the heating and cooling system were carried out with the necessary equipment and piping systems, integrated into the wider hospital infrastructure being built in parallel.
The new hospital complex, KBC Rijeka, received a modern, highly reliable energy system designed for continuous operation and a stable supply of heating and cooling energy. The use of BIM technology enabled precise installation execution, space optimisation, and efficient coordination of all project stakeholders.
